It's really strange and disturbing to have Mulgrew calling for "all out war" against Mamdani. We're educators, and the vast majority of us don't want to "go to war" with anyone. War represents failure. War represents the inability to effectively organize, advocate and negotiate. Mulgrew lacks the ability to do any of that, so instead he is calling for "all out war". And what does "all out war" even look like in the UFT, where our union leaders and Mulgrew prioritize self-preservation, their padded salaries, and maintaining total control over every apparatus of our union at all times. Will Mulgrew tell us to all wear blue in our schools for the 20th time? Are we going to grade papers at Starbucks? There is no strategy and no thought to anything. Mulgrew is flailing.
Mulgrew talks tough but it’s a façade. He has an established history of capitulating, and the City and State both know it. Tier 6, promising $600 million in healthcare savings to the City in perpetuity to fund contract raises, accepting and later promoting Medicare Advantage, and agreeing to sub-inflationary contractual raises immediately spring to mind.
I absolutely have no faith in mulgrew’s ability to advocate for us as members, especially paraprofessionals.
When contract negotiations start, we should all go down to 52 Broadway with signs in our hands and protest and demand better pay and working conditions.. 3% raises are not gonna cut it we cannot be fooled by non-pensionable handouts .

It now appears Mulgrew and Unity are rushing to endorse City Council Speaker Julie Menin in her political maneuvering to become the next mayor in 2029.
It's relevant, and we're not turning away from it -- especially when it's our union president engaging in that kind of coarse rhetoric and implying violence. A union of educators should not be declaring "all-out-war" on anyone.
