absolutely disgusting. If i wasn’t running with ABc already this article would have sealed the deal for me. Time to vote Mulgrew out!

Playing with something that was promised to retirees, is unfathomable.

Funny - I had the same reaction when I saw Paul Egan was running for the second highest position on the slate.

Just to confirm, the ABC substack is free for public viewing and is not a paid subscription.

Also, this article further supports that not only can UFT members not afford Mulgrew, but also other NYC retirees cannot afford Mulgrew (as part of MLC). I'm not sure how many folks watched the recent mayoral forum, but universal healthcare is something several candidates discussed that should be a statewide (and national) policy.

We need to be left with some action items at the end of the report or essay.

Action Items would be continuing to support this Senator who a year ago created this bill, to protect our retirees. This state Bill would make it unnecessary for us to pass 1096 at the city level it also would expand that to all government retirees.

This is an abomination! There is absolutely NOTHING UNION in what Mulgrew and the AFL-CIO are doing to our benefits. Healthcare is essential-- which is why the Labor Movement and the Civil Rights Movement fought so hard for it.

Unions were designed to raise the standard for all. Instead Mulgrew and the AFL-CIO have decided to use vital health benefits as bargaining chips for raises. By now most of us can see that what they claim as "savings" is just transferring the cost (and harm) to us and the wealth to privately owned companies, bureaucrats and opportunists.

Thanks to the phenomenal ABC Team for consistently exposing and calling things out for what they are.

Urge all you know to fight hard for our city bill Intro 1096, and our Health Equity for Retirees Act (S3607) in Albany - which Mulgrew and AFL-CIO are determined and about to kill!

The pension issue and now this. How long before they walk this back or accuse us of misinformation?

If you buy your own supplemental plan and do not go on the required Advantage plan, it will cost thousands. Plus, you will lose the reimbursements for Medicare payment and IRMAA that you pay for out of your Social Security, which will cost another couple of thousand per year.

According to the NYS website, this bill is still active and has been referred to the Senate Civil Service and Pensions Committee. I am going to reach out to one of the co-sponsors who I spoke to on Lobby Day and at other local events - John Liu - to get some first hand info before I add more to this Substack. You all can do the same since there are MANY co-sponsors to choose from who may be associated with where you lived or worked.

It is still active on the public facing site. We will have more say in coming days on the reality of what’s happened in Albany.
