Hi Carol, thank you for reading. Solidarity with our students and their families is a moral and ethical decision, and is not based on political affiliation.

It is against the law for educators to strike.  How are you different from the UFT when you are encouraging dereliction of duty? Not just to the workers but towards children. So when it is time to negotiate contracts you will have no leverage. How are you different from a fascist who tells people what to wear, where to shop and how to think?  How are you supposed to lead when you are encouraging the undermining of government authority? Where is civil discourse as opposed to civil disobedience and outright disorganized protest because you didn’t win the prize and now seek to destroy the very system that you once supported because you didn't like the election outcome.

Hello, thank you for reading. Our posted article provides options for UFT members who want to show solidarity with today's General Strike. The article does not call for educators to leave their classrooms or schools.

I'm a musician. I've been on an arts strike for over 50 years, when I found out how musicians are treated in this country.

What kind of organizing is this, that I hear about a supposedly "national" strike on the day of? I am pretty well plugged into the resistance movement and I'm just hearing now? How many people can possibly have heard of it. It is doomed to failure, with a response that will be worse than have done nothing at all. Who organized this thing anyway?

Hi Paul, the national general strike was announced well in advance of today. Here is the link to the organizers' website: https://nationalshutdown.org/
