Standing Strong with Our Federal Workers
A statement from the ABC Slate in union solidarity with federal workers
Today, A Better Contract announces that we stand in unwavering solidarity with the hardworking men and women of the federal workforce who have dedicated their careers to serving this nation. These individuals are our neighbors, friends, and family members. Like us, they are the backbone of government agencies that keep their government in Washington run smoothly. They protect our borders, ensure the safety of our food and medicine. They process our Social Security, Medical benefits and tax refunds.
Now, through no fault of their own, thousands of these dedicated workers face the painful reality of sudden job loss. These are not just numbers on a spreadsheet for us; these are real people with real families to support. They have real mortgages to pay, and real dreams to pursue. Their skills and commitment have helped build a stronger America, and we must not turn our backs on them now.
We recognize that leadership decisions at the highest levels come with difficult choices. And we are aware that the strength of our nation has always been found in the unity of its people. In moments like these, A Better Contract does not point fingers—we lift each other up. We do not divide—we unite. This is not about politics. This is about people.
We call on businesses, community leaders, and elected officials to stand with these workers. We seek a space to recommend opening doors for new opportunities for our fellow civil servants, to provide them with pathways for reemployment, and to ensure that no one is left behind. If ever there was a time to show the true American spirit of unity, it is now. If ever there was a union to show the true unionist spirit of solidarity, it is us.
To every federal worker affected by this situation: You are not alone. Your hard work has not gone unnoticed, and your contributions will not be forgotten. We will fight for a fair path forward for tou, we will support you, we will refrain from the politics of the moment and together, we will rise.
