Dear UFT Members,
Thank you so much for attending A Better Contract's UFT Member Assembly last Tuesday to discuss the ABCs of Healthcare. Over 200 UFT members joined the call.
During our last meeting, dozens of us shared our thoughts, concerns and vision for protecting and expanding our healthcare benefits for both In-service and Retiree UFT members. The work of protecting and expanding our healthcare will be challenging at times, and change will not happen overnight, but we will remain clear-eyed, steadfast and unified in our determination to protect the healthcare that was promised to us —which we all have earned with our hard work and dedication to the children, families and school communities of New York City.
As was mentioned at Tuesday's meeting, A Better Contract will soon be announcing our slate of candidates. Make sure to subscribe to ABC’s Substack to be the among the first to get the news!
If you are interested in running with A Better Contract in the upcoming 2025 UFT General Election, it is still possible to do so!
Please go to slate.uftmembers.org, and let us know how you want to get involved. We will get back to you right away. The campaign platform for A Better Contract can be viewed here.
Other Ways to Get Involved
If you are not able to commit to running in the election with A Better Contract, that is okay! There are still a lot of other ways to help:
1. Talk to 3 Colleagues – Share why you are part of this campaign for A Better Contract, and invite your colleagues and friends to get involved. We need and want all UFT members to be involved. Please print out and hang up the attached flyer at your school.
2. Organize Small Meetings – Bring together your coworkers to talk about what they want to see in a truly member-led union.
3. Be the Wave – Our strength lies in our numbers and relational organizing. Every conversation you have and every person you bring on-board builds momentum. Each and every action you take makes a big difference. Send a text, email or make a phone call.
4. Think Outside Your School - Think beyond your school community and think about UFT members you know who are working in other schools and other divisions, especially elementary and middle schools. Please reach out to those UFT members and get them involved in A Better Contract.
5. Follow us on Social Media - Following us on your favorite social media platform(s) while also liking and sharing our posts goes a long way in spreading the word. Go to our Link Tree to get started — linktr.ee/abettercontract
This campaign is about all of us, and together we can create the much needed, positive change in our union that we all deserve. In the weeks ahead, we will be scheduling additional meetings for Elementary Schools, Middle Schools, High Schools, Paraprofessionals Citywide + District 75 (All Titles), and Retirees.
Our next Member Assembly is tentatively scheduled for Tuesday, February 11. You can RSVP, here.
Please stay tuned for future emails with more information, and follow us on social media to stay up to date.
We look forward to meeting with you again soon.
In solidarity
